THE JOHOR CRICKET ACADEMY & OVAL

The Johor Cricket Academy is the home of the Johor Cricket Council (JCC).

The JCC has always felt that there is that something elusive in Cricket that is at the very heart of the game - tradition. Tradition is a very powerful force for Cricket to grow.  It requires a Cricket setting, a ground, a club house and pavilion called its own.  It is only in such a setting that cricketers and lovers of the game can exchange the wonderful loyalties and memories that go to make up the enduring traditions and culture of this sport.

With this in mind, the concerted and relentless efforts of our President, Dato’ Dr Harjit Singh, finally bore fruit.  At the Premier Dinner of the JCC in 1996, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Abdul Ghani bin Othman, Chief Minister of Johor, announced the Government’s support for setting up of a Cricket Academy & Oval.

Situated on a 14.25 acres parcel of land, the Johor Cricket Academy & Oval is perhaps the largest Cricket Oval in the world with a playing radius of 110 yards from the centre.  It has nine natural turf strips in the centre wicket block, a vast pavilion, indoor cricket hall and terraced seating areas surrounded by beautiful tall pine trees rendering a typical cricket setting.

Visiting foreign teams have always admired this unique idyllic cricket setting as well as the quality of the centre wicket and its vast outfield which is managed by an experienced curator from the National Stadium, Dhaka in Bangladesh.

The Johor Cricket Academy & Oval has played host for many International Tournaments, the most significant being:-

---The Asian Cricket Council Under 17 Tournament 2005,

---The Saudara Cup 2005,

---The International Cricket Academies Invitation Tournament 2006,

---The Inaugural Asian Cricket Council Women’s Cricket Tournament 2007,

---The Johor Bahru City Hall Invitational Cricket Tournament 2007,

---The International Cricket Council Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2008,

---The Saudara Cup 2009.

Regular coaching lessons are organized for the various age groups by a group of experienced coaches  Ralston Thiedeman from Australia, Arif Abbasi and Amir Muhammad from Pakistan, K. Ramadas and Fadhli from Johor.

Coaching camps are also organized during school holidays and weekends with accommodation, meals and transport allowances provided for the participants.

The Academy “SETS THE PACE” to promote cricket to a high level of popularity and improvement of our standards of play so that the our dream of establishing the much desired “Cricket Culture” takes fruition in our quest to achieve Test Status for Malaysia.
